Hi guys,

A client has asked me to upgrade his CCU and add a cooker circuit and some sockets for kitchen appliances. I then found out he is going to get his brother to do some minor works eg change sockets, move a few light fittings. The questions I have are:
How do I go about providing a certificate? Would I need to get his brother to sign it?
Also, do I need to install mains smoke, heat and CM detectors and fused spurs for existing kitchen appliances when upgrading a CCU as there are none?

I'm not sure how to proceed and I don't want to turn it down.

Thanks

Also, do I need to install mains smoke, heat and CM detectors and fused spurs for existing kitchen appliances when upgrading a CCU as there are none?added safety. Not necessary, but desirable for added safety

see red. but you should know this already.

you cant his brother to sign your certificate!!, your signing for the design, construction and testing of your installation work which will be stated in the details of the installation box on the front page of your certificate and notified by you.

Explain to him that its best if you do all the work thats required then list on the Eic exactly what you have done. Hes just trying to save a bit of cash by getting his brother to do the small jobs. Tell its like a F1 mechanic working on the engine and then letting kwik fit do the brakes.;)

I would quote on the basis the works are done by you, completed and tested prior to the other person actually doing any work. If you do this make sure the description of what your cert says is very thorough.

I wouldn't be testing after the brothers work, or including it in my work.

Why does he want his brother to do the other bits?
