Hi, just needing a little help, problem with downstairs light not working, worked for years previously, have no live feed to switch or light connections so I'm guessing that we must have a junction box somewhere & radial wiring so a loose connection in the junction box?. Have 2 red wires into the switch and 3 wires into the light rose. Am I right if so is my only option to either take up the bedroom floor difficult as built in furniture or cut a section of plaster board out of the ceiling, but how do I locate the junction box to minimise the work to rectify, heard that wire detectors are not very good. Thanks and appreciate any help.

I should have said 'between' rather than 'onto'.
When you are testing for voltage, put one probe on the red in the switch and the other on the blacks in the connector. Then repeat between the other red and the blacks.
Then test between each red and the cpc.
I have a feeling from earlier posts that you were testing between the two reds at the switch which willnever show a voltage.
step by step guide will not be tolerated ,get some one in before you get hurt .

if the switch that doesent work is the last switch on the circuit then you could be using spider wiring or switch loop in/out, however if there all the other switches only have two twin and earths coming in then you must be using spider wiring. this is becasue to feed the next switch on a loop in/out system you will have 3 twin and earths. one to the light one from the previous switch and one to the next switch.

How are you getting on steve evans?? has electricians forum been able to help you? i think thats the general idea.
Did you find that the live out of the previous switch was dead or was there a problem between the two switches??
Found the forum great some good advice but not sorted yet as I can't work in the dark hopefully tomorrow will have another look.

Think it's the last switch in the circuit it's the dining room furthest from the consumer unit. Will check how many wires on the other switch tomorrow. Thanks.

Big thank you to all that have offered help, I appreciated your comments. I have been doing small electrical jobs in my home for 40 plus years so think I'm quite capable, but obviously buzzlightyear is getting upset and aggressive shouting so I will come off here now. Thanks again chaps.

why are you giving me a dumb Mr Evans ? is it because I put that on post #39 ,I would not like to think you have burned you house down or injured your self ,IMO I think people come to post thing on this forum might be out of their comfort zone ,so good luck with it ,all the best BUZZLIGHT YEAR .
