Ceiling Wiring Confusion (4 wires)

Hello forum,

I'm stumped about how to correctly and safely wire up a new light fitting and stupidly didn't take a picture of the existing ceiling rose set up before removing it. I was wondering if someone here could help me out! I've attached a picture of the four wires that are coming out of the ceiling, and I think the top black wire was going into the hole where the brown wire was connected on the ceiling rose pendant, and the bottom black wire was going into the hole where the blue wire was connected on the ceiling rose pendant. The other two must be part of the switching loop? But I just can't figure it out correctly, and have tried a couple of combinations only for the trip switch to go every time. In terms of the connection of the new light, it has just a blue and a brown going into a junction box that has 4 holes available on the other end, 2 that are lined up with the brown and 2 that are lined up with the blue...
Does anyone know how to correctly fix this?

^^^^ to be fair could be, maybe spurred feed ,s/l, or looped s/l and N who knows without testing.?

Wow, so many comments since yesterday. Pretty active forum which is great! So I decided to reverse the process and stick the old ceiling rose light back on, only to find that the switch then wouldn't work! It was just remaining on the whole time! By the point I really couldn't figure out what I had done, so you'll be pleased to hear, I took on the majority advice and got an electrician in! He was not impressed with the wiring as expected, but got it sorted Death Star light up and running! Thanks for your help all!

I believe it is taken to be less safe than before any work is commenced, i.e as per installation condition prior to addition /alteration.
Though any decent spark would ensure that the installation is in an improved state post work done. As a basic example (similar to op situation) - installing a class 2 fitting where there is no cpc installed.
