Hello forum,

I'm stumped about how to correctly and safely wire up a new light fitting and stupidly didn't take a picture of the existing ceiling rose set up before removing it. I was wondering if someone here could help me out! I've attached a picture of the four wires that are coming out of the ceiling, and I think the top black wire was going into the hole where the brown wire was connected on the ceiling rose pendant, and the bottom black wire was going into the hole where the blue wire was connected on the ceiling rose pendant. The other two must be part of the switching loop? But I just can't figure it out correctly, and have tried a couple of combinations only for the trip switch to go every time. In terms of the connection of the new light, it has just a blue and a brown going into a junction box that has 4 holes available on the other end, 2 that are lined up with the brown and 2 that are lined up with the blue...
Does anyone know how to correctly fix this? :praying:
Thanks in advance!!

it appears to have cutoff cpc's in those cables, so might not be a difficult fix. if it wers within my area, between £40 and £50 would probably cover a call-out , test and fix.

. . . . . and then medical help!
The bang test gets a bit old with a 3036 board - rewiring a fuse just to try again - we're spoilt with these new fangled MCBs you know!

Sorry to hear that of the two but great that other 3 have made it - a miracle in its own right. Smell them for me! I love puppy smell.

Join the red to the brown using a connector block.
Insert the two black wires into the L and N.
See what happens.

Yes that may work, but it does not resolve the earthing issue, not only is there no Earth connected in the ceiling but it is very likely that the switch is not earthed either!

Get an electrician

RED with Brown at separate connector Black from red to N and Black from Brown to L

this is the last point in circuit and new 3core is running from switch :))
This may well be the case but what about verifying continuity/connection of the cpcs.

Power off ! The switch wires will be the ones that go low resistance when the switch is turned on and go open circuit when its off.
