Hi just done a consumer unit for client and hoping to use it for niceic inspection as i in prosess of joining .
What is worrying me is client has said where is his certificate even though he has had full installation inspections and test results. Once I get in niceic do I get some other type of certificate to give him aswell as the above?
Paul

Hi

How did you provide the client with the test and inspection results? They should be provided as part of an electrical installation certificate (EIC), which you must supply. Have a look in the big red regs book for sample EICs

as you are not yet part p registeredyou should have notified building control before you started. they will inspect the work and issue a cert - at a cost! (ÂŁ132.82 in my area)

after advice on here was to use this as 1 of my inspections for niceic and was told to leave building control out and self cert it once in niceic, also spoke to an inspector locally and he agreed. do nicice or bc issue any certificate to the client?

Good point but ask the inspector where you stand if you happen to fail the assessment, you are still not part P registered and cant issue a certificate under the part P scheme they do not issue a BS 7671 certificate only the person doing the work can do that they should issue a completion certificate to you or whoever notified the work and paid them as I understand it.

Chris

problem is if i end up falling out with client going to loose more work but as far as i am aware he has all he needs and once i am in niceic will get other certificate if one exists

in the IEE book 'Electricians guide to the building Regulations' on page 19 there is a sample of a Napit form that the registered electicial contractor would complete, send to Napit who would issue a 'building regs compliance certificate' and inform the appropriate Building control.

I guess the same applies for Niceic

This is a bit of a funny situation I was also wondering about. You need to do 2 jobs to be inspected before you actually complete registration (enabling you to write out the cert). The only right way seems to be to pay building control for it but I doubt many do do they as 2 of these charges on top of all the NIC fees wouldn't make it worth doing! I guess this is why so many people swap to CU over in their own house for the NIC assessment or stick with friends and families stuff until they've passed the assessment.

Best thing to do is contact the client and verify what he is after and once you know where you stand you could always twist it around abit and say as part of your customer service you will call out an NICEIC to verify your work without any further cost to him:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Chris

the thing is as i understood it when niceic regersted you fill in the green forms and not black but you don't get any other paperwork so thought i would be ok and sign it off later. So am i wrong and other paperwork is issued?

do nicice or bc issue any certificate to the client?

Hi.

I belive your customer may be asking about a "Building regs compliance cert". When you register a job with your scheme provider this is what the customer gets.

There's no problem with using this job as your assessment and then notifying via NIC, NAPIT etc,you just need to be confident you will pass.;)

hi,
you also only have 30 days to register the job too so make sure your assessment is before that deadline and all paperwork submitted or your customer wont get his building notice

the way it was explained to me when i registered was that as you are not on a competent persons scheme you HAVE to go through building control as that is the process until you complete your registration.

if your scheme lets you register jobs dated before your assessment then i cant forsee a problem but you really should have confirmed this before starting the work

Hi,
You have to register any noticable work with your local building control until your registered with a competenent persons scheme.

But I know that people offen don't bother due to the fee for doing note for it:rolleyes:. In doing what you have done, is run the risk until your registered with a scheme. And like stated you only get 30 days to register any work under taken from the date of completion. So need to join a scheme within the 30 days if registering the job through the scheme only.

But what happens if it over runs the 30 days:eek:(ie you don't pass) I would say all you have to do is retest and reissue a new cert. But remember your still running the risk, untill your with a scheme, cuz you didn't go through building control.

Once your with a scheme you register all the jobs you do on the internet with the scheme. They will submit the results to the local building control and then they will send a letter of notice to the customer/s to say the required standards have been meet.

Hope this helps and answer some questions. I know it takes the p*** going through the building control route and then paying for a scheme on top but thats the way it is:mad:

Paul, (I realise this is a week later)your client isn't likely to know what forms he needs (unless he's a sparky), follow the advice above from Chris (acat), the EIC (inc schedules) is all he will need but as said, you should have contacted the b/c to come and check your work to sign it off.

You should still do this because even though you may end up being Part P quaified you've already completed the work & issued the cert if anything goes down between the time the NIC come & the finishing of the work you may well be liabal.

But if by now you've already been varified by NIC (as this is a wk later) you can re-issue the EIC with a new date as yr work has been varified by your self (hopefully now) a competient person.
