I believe that NVQ L3/C&G 2356 is going to change in January 2011.

from what i,ve been told registration end date is now to be april 2011. if you haven't enrolled on the 2356 before the cut off date you wont be able to do it, you will then have to do a small portion (work based) of the 2357 to obtain the equivelent nvq 2356 and i have been told this will include the am2 what ever your age, also the 2357 will not be funded by the government at all for older students. So the implications of not doing or enrolling on the 2356 before it ends appears to be that it will cost you a lot more to do the 2357. There would always have to be some pathway to complete the qualification as the 2330 is the technical part and the 2356 is the competency part and there are a lot of people without the 2356 part whether you need it or not i dont know.
sry for Going off topic but is there anyway to be an Electrician without the NVQ3 as im currently doing the 2330 L3 at college but with no sign of getting any Electrical work im can't see me being able to do the NVQ3. And with the NVQ3 being scrapped this year im beginning to think whats the point of me carrying on the the L3 cert when im not going to be able to do the NVQ3 ???
you will be able to do the NVQ3...but the 2357 next sept if you stick with the L3, you'll simply move on to the last year of the 2357 , although it will involve more exams, best get as much work exp in the meantime so that way you'll be more suited to getting involved enough to complete your protfolio that your gona need for the NVQ
that's what i think anyway..i'm sure other lads might come in on this, best of luck to u
Best advise I would give would be to REGISTER for the NVQ 2356 NOW before December 31st. The REGISTRATION for the 2356 ends in December 2010 BUT you can complete this afterwards (the qualification does not end until December 2013). This means that if you regsiter now, you will not have to pay the additional cost for an AM2 which is embedded into the new qualification (2357). Average cost of an AM2 is about ÂŁ700.00 inclusive and obviously more if you have to resit any part of it.
You have to remember that the NVQ is work based and needs to be carried out in a place of work (voluntary or otherwise), the new qualification will be much the same but you will have to also have knowledge (college) and work experience of environmentally friendly installations etc. Basically, to save money and uncertainty, and especially if you are already doing your level 3, you should register for the existing NVQ before the cut off date 31/12/10.
You'll need to contact a local college and check whether their doin the 2356 and if so then you'll need to register with them; very lkely you'll have to pay some of the fee upfront, as they have to register you with C&G before the deadline 31/10, they'll also line you up with an accessor, but you'll be able to start the actuall evendence gathering once you have your intructions wghich your acceser will give you...however there is a fly in the ointment so to speak , only that I think any college will ask you have you got your tech cert yet!! only if you have, they'll let you registerah ok thanks. How do I go about booking a place on the NVQ3 and do you have to pay upfront or once i've gained my evidence etc. ???
however there is a fly in the ointment so to speak , only that I think any college will ask you have you got your tech cert yet!! only if you have, they'll let you register for the 2365, that is the rule currently, I registered yesterday and that exactly what they will ask, hope it works out, good luck
Just to clarify, the NVQ is a stand alone qualification and DOES not require the 2330 level 2 or 3. The 2330 is a way of providing evidence of a candidates underpinning knowledge and many colleges can and do use other methods of determining a candidates underpinning knowledge through question and answer, professional discussion etc. See the following link for details http://www.city-and-guilds.co.uk/documents/ind_construction_electrical/2356-FAQ.pdf
