As above. Does the electricianI have to remove all the transformers. Are therr not led downlighter led bulbs with thin pins?

Yes, there are 12V LED lamps but many transformers are not capable of properly regulating their output voltage if the load is too small. A typical specification would be 20-60W... put a single LED on that and it's highly likely the output will pulsate as the transformer struggles to properly regulate it's output.

Unless there is a specific reason to retain the 12V lamps I would probably advise that we replace them with mains lamps and remove the transformers altogether. If that's not an option then I would replace the transformer with one from Varilight as these are specified with ratings like 0-50W and they absolutely do work very well with MR16 style lamps (these are the 12V with thin pins).
 
Thanks I think will switch to all led’s.
I have only changed 3 haligen bulbs in 10 years but my wife says led use much less electricity. Thanks for advice.
