I generally do domestic work, and much prefer to use cheaper brands, especially for CUs, I always fit main switch + RCBOs, never split load, I think this is a better job all round and would like to know what you choose. designer label or better job! and if you go for MK or merlin or whatever then why, unless the customer specifies, would you do so. I am open to be turned.

When it comes to CU, I only fit what I trust, usually Wylex or the Crabtree equivalent. Saying that, I actually had a call back to a job last week where the 80A RCD went faulty, though I suspect it was a surgre from the supply that caused it.
I have tried to fit some of the cheaper ones, not many, last one was a Cudis. Absolute garbage, I nearly ripped it off the wall.
Accessories wise, I fit what the customer wants, but if it's down to me for a cheaper job, usually Polar or Newlec which are made by GET. I find the MK stuff a bit fiddly these days, old stuff was more robust, particularly the grid stuff.

As long as the brasses are tough enough for the heads not to come off when they're tightened up then I'm happy. Let's be honest Wylex/Crabtree have just had a massive recall.... everything's made in the bloody far east, it's all carp. We're talking quality of plastic and plastic's never quality. Provided it's working, cheap cheap cheap.

I agree, and as long it passes RCD tests and is to BS or EU standards then why not use these cheaper brands. In the past I have had to take Wylex RCDs back because they have not passed x5 test. So I want someone to convince me to use expensive brands.

to be truthfully honest i fit what ever is on special in the Wholesalers!!! or how much i get the job for!!
