As above. Does it have to come from t'chippy or do/can you make your own at home?

Resorted to kfc gravy now ,i was over the moon when i found a proper chippy in central london that served it had a mate from the north working with me who almost cried when i took him there for his birthday, the good old days before gps and smartphones and productivity.

Sadly they seem to be dying out around here. There used to be a couple of good ones within walking distance from me, but without trying to sound xenophobic since they changed hands they've gone right down hill. Food used to be fried to order, now it seems to be served 'McDonalds style' and you still have to wait ages for it. Last time I went to what used to be a good chippy the guy didn't seem to have a scooby; I wanted a battered sausage and half chips - the chips were dry and gritty, the sausage seemed to have been cooked the day before and reheated. Dry inside with rock hard batter. It used to be served on greaseproof paper with that 'newspaper without the print' paper they use in chippies, but now they use polystyrene takeaway boxes.
That will be the last time I go in there.

Now I have to get in the car to get to the nearest half decent chippy, otherwise it's a half hour round trip by foot.

Usk has a stonking fish & chip shop (worked near there once). More local for me is Kinver, on the main drag, had fish 'un chinkers 2 weeks ago and it was bloody brilliant.

we must be spoiled for choice up here...3 top quality chippies within 25 minute walk from my door....they even do the deep fried mars bar!

Come down to Weymouth mate, where the quality is excellent and the competition is fierce. We have 3 national award wining chippies (Alf's, Fish & Fritz and Daniels) who all do chips and gravy on request.

theres not many real chippys now, they all do every thing like pizzas.kebabs, and anything else that passes as food,i can count on one hand the number of real chippys within 5 miles of me,and yes the are batter(pun intended) than the one stop shop modern chippy..i feel hungry now..

There are chippies round here, in fact there are about 3 within a 5 minute walk, it's just you have to travel a bit to get to a good one. The one I use now is staffed by genuine northern migrant workers, so they probably do a great chips & gravy.

Yes, I've never tried them but Weymouth is renowned for it's chippies. Chippies and Olympic sailing.
