Make my own onion gravy to go with the sausage and mash

A mate of mine has a pub and restaurant and a few months ago the apprentice chef was at college the lecturer said that the lesson was making gravy and asked someone to get the gravy granules from the storeroom, the apprentice pointed out that the chef where he worked didn't use them and started making the gravy for Sunday lunch on Tuesday by starting his stockpot with bones and veg on a slow bubble for the rest of the week the reply was along the lines of nobody does that any more his response was they do at the place I work. Must admit it does make a very nice gravy even if it does take 5 days

That's pretty much why I suggested making your own at home - surely nothing beats gravy made from what drips off a joint of beef? Obviously chippies don't roast joints of beef, which begs the question as to how they make their gravy.

As above. Does it have to come from t'chippy or do/can you make your own at home?

I'm a bit surprised to see that Dan didn't give you a thanks for starting this thread.

Anyway, back on topic ...... I like to go to the Fish Quay at North Shields & have fish 'n' chips at Oceans Fish Restaurant - absolutely first class.

Any sparks in Glasgow- there's a really good chinese in springburn right across from the shopping centre and Clydesdale bank, you need to try the chicken balls and chips out of there with the curry sauce.....

yep never visit the NE without a visit to the fish Quay. last time we had a trip to Whitby nice chippy there.

I was behind some brickies last week, and they ordered chips, cheesy topping with bolognese, gravy, curry sauce and beans on the top.............:puke:

I agree with the Fish Quay, North Shields............. smokin!!!! The fish is just gorgeous, I've been there a few times and never been disappointed.

Harry Ramsden's in Yardley, Brum is another nice place...... chips are lovely and there is also a chippy in Brum centre that sells orange coloured chips. Sound gruesome but they taste stonking.

We'll go there again next week pet.

Ye can have yer usual kingsize cod & chips with onion rings, pineapple rings, mushy peas, curry sauce, four slices of bread & butter & two cups of tea - with 2 sugar. Then we'll sit in me little sports car & watch the boats & the world go by - while the little sports car leaks another half litre of oil through its knackered sump onto the road underneath. :winkiss:

And you can have your dolphin with mushy peas, one of the pineapple rings and some of my curry sauce, half of the bread and butter, 3 cups of tea, and moan and grumble all the way home about the smell of oil coming from the car. Then fall asleep in the chair after 3 glasses of red wine and a double whisky. :54:

Luckily we have some good chippies around here...Sheddies (Turners) is still going strong after many many years.

One trend i have noticed over the last few years is how many chippies dont do scraps!....i know they're only bits of batter but used to love me chips mixed in with scraps....seem's many chippies throw the scraps away as waste now....
