ok so i was told by a friend to day who is doing accounting and taxes and whatnot and he was talking to me about claiming back on my car, insurance and tools was wondering if there is outher stuff that you may be able to claim back was thinking of maybe hotels if your working away from home ^^
also he was talking about how much i should claim on % he was talking of around 50% to stop them from coming to me and asking questions, just wondering if its the percentage or the amount that will be able to claim stuff back thanks.

Speak to an accountant. They are up to date on what you can and can't claim for.

keep a mileage record of business mileage then claim 40p per mile first 10,000 then 25p thereafter. It's easy as you put your start/ finish mileage down and purpose of journey. You can use a. excel spreadsheet that will do all the calculations for you (i can pm you a sample). You can claim for living away allowance. It's a set amount, I don;t know what it is, but my accountant claimed for me for 10 months last year when i was working away. Good advice is get a good trustworthy accountant. Ask around. Mine costs be £200 a year, claims for everything I can LEGITIMATELY claim for and gets me back thousands. When claiming mileage, because you claim for p/pm this covers tyres, insurance, tax, MOT, devaluation, servicing, etc.. and the record you keep ensures that you only claim for business mileage so it all counts. The 40p/ 25p resets at the start of the new tax year. I have seen the figures of claiming all receipts vs claiming mileage, and believe me, mileage is the most tax efficient way to go.

Good luck (and I can recommend a good accountant)

It’s great when you get the envelope from the tax with a cheque in it! Not so great when they tell you you’ve move to the next rate of tax!
Pay legitimate tax on legitimate work first ! ! ! !

CAUTION here fella, if you start going off claiming for everything, then the very nice investigators at HMRC will gladly pull you in for a little talk. A bloody little talk, that you will have to take under caution my friend. DO NOT f*** about with the nice people at the tax/vat office. Its really not worth trying to save a few quid, ONLY to be slaughtered for a fortune, and to be 'red flagged' by HM Gestapo. Its all right for some dodgy accountant to say to you that, they can get you a fortune back. If their not the person responsible for signing YOUR tax return.
