Making sure the metal is preheated to at least a certain temperature for the weld.

It says in the spec. He needs to check the metal has been preheated to the right temperature before welding to ensure a good weld.

now some of his work requires the metal to be preheated to a given temp' before he can commit the weld and it is crucial for a good weld that he know when the metal is ready to weld
