********Competition Time***********

Guys I think I will make a thread in the staff room for all the completion entries. Then when it comes to judging all entries will be together without the chit chat. I can then copy the entire thread back here for judging.

PS trainees continue to post your entries on this thread.

Uncle Glenn, can I play as well? Here is a few wires going into a fuse box lol.

Only joking lads, I cant enter but I will say that it took an entire day to get those 300mm Ali Armored singles x 8 in a perfect straight line on the ladder rack into the DB using a scissor lift and a lot of cable ties. The head Electrician was really hard to please and only accepted perfection, just like GMES on this comp (and in the real working world lol)

It dose not matter what picture you post up as long as you did the work. We look forward to looking at it so just have a go. Good luck to everyone.

Thank you mate that's a cracking idea, I will try to keep the thread on track, but boys will be boys.

What's the PFC of that install Paul, I wouldn't like cables like that cable tied.

Could not tell you the PFC on this, it was at the time I had to take on the odd agency job to keep ticking over. Very strict head spark "Turn up, do what is asked of you and you can come back tomorrow" kind of thing. I was only there for a week to cover a company sparks roll whilst on a bereavement break. I did not find out the Ze or the Zdb1 to be able to calculate the Zdb2 which this is. Very good firm though, been doing work like this for decades and only the best are employed, at the time the were struggling to keep their own lads in work through the recession so no hope for me, shame really.

As for the cable ties, I agree but that is how "He" wanted it doing. I tied each single every 450mm (I think) so adequately secured for "him". That is a lot of weight for a slim bit of plastic I agree. Rob this is your line of works, how would you do this cable drop? I'm not an industrial sparks, but I'm interested on knowing about other methods that I dont know about in case for next time.

Know what you mean! (just doing what you're told :-) )
I think Rob is alluding to them cables blowing apart from the tray under fault conditions.

2008-2012 were really hard for me, and you have to do whatever it takes to pay the bills and put food on the table. I've done loads of cr4ppy jobs just to fulfill basic living standards (beans on toast 5 days a week kind of thing). It gets better if you work hard for it, hence the reason why i put a lot of effort into this Trainee Section. We have all been on the first tread of the ladder, time to pay back some of the help I've received via the forum. I'm a better electrician because of it.

The ladder is earthed and continuous (that much I'm sure about, I did it lol). In the past on jobs like this one, I hate only being told the part of the install which I will be working on. Because of that, I always tell the lads under me now the full story and the job/s has always gone better due to people knowing what they are doing and why. Just ask Doody Toody.

btw Rob and Archey, it was protected by an 800A RCD isolation switch with Amp & mA time adjustable controls for the single machine it was feeding. I'd love to go back and run a few tests but it is a secured building and I would have no chance of getting to see it again, pitty.

Paul there are various cleats you can use on ladder racking to secure the cable.
Here is a pdf of all the products you can use, there is also loads of interesting tables regarding derating, spacing etc, it is 73 pages but well worth a read for anyone working with ladder / tray.
well worth saving for the future.
