Any one used the push fit conduit joints no more threading , bend and shape and push together

Yellow77 for help pulling cables in, I have used push on galv couplers before which are good for use if you have an existing tube in a wall and can't get a thread on it!

You might like this for conduit work from one of our us bretheran

been there, done that......every time somebody comes along after and sticks loads of RED Fire Alarm FP all over the place, then the client goes "huh sparks made a mess there"......I dont see any basket or tray there in these pictures though so I think maybe this is a site where everything is sealed in conduit...?? :p usually there is some trunking and tray in there as well for Data and fire/cctv/telephone etc...

I used push fit ones twice with two different companies, on both occasions they thought they were saving time and ended up going back to using threaded ones......the push fits have little spikes/grooves inside them so you can hammer them on.....they end up loose and moving from side to side....
Reminds me of a time I worked on a site and they bought about 4 grand worth of "electricians Nail guns" as they thought it would be quicker (therefore cheaper) to fit ladder/uni strut onto floors and walls (under suspended floors and on plant room walls) and in the end it just made a really big mess, the customer also said that they wanted Everything in 12mm Anchor Bolt fixings for future removal/changes...

The ones I used had a little screw on the couplers tightened with a hex key, this had to be hid so the main contractor didn't see them!

I've spent the last three weeks putting three lighting circuits in a warehouse. I used over 100 metres of 25 mm pvc conduit, most of which I ran along the underside of a 4.5 metre high ceiling. There were so many obstacles I ended up buying loads of inspection bends and elbows and used these instead of a spring.

Is that cheating? :)

no I think we are supposed to use preformed bends and inspection bends on plastic conduit, and its just that companies are too tite to buy them in so they take it out on our knees and we end up walking funny, I dont think plastic conduit is supposed to be bent....I now refuse to bend plastic conduit as I hurt my knee years ago doing it and it was sore every day for about 8 months, so now I bend galvanised conduit and on plastic I use pre-formed bends or they can stuff it....
Watch out or you will do damage to your knees trying to bend the plastic stuff with a spring inside it, it pushes tendens and nerves about in there and ends up coming to damage but by then its too late....

Thanks for the tip. Bends and elbows are so cheap, less than a quid each if you know where to look, it would cost more in labour to bend it all with a spring anyway.

What do you do when you get to the point where a pre-formed bend won’t do?

Which i would guess is, the majority of the time!!!! Never heard anything so ridiculous that Plastic pipe isn't supposed to be bent!!! Can you imagine what a surface installation would look like without purpose dogleg bending into Boards.Panels, boxes etc. Or 4 inspection bends around/over every beam and the like??

Your Electricians, NOT cowboys!!!!

I wasn't aware conduit bending skills were how electricians were judged. I must be a cowboy then.

Tony,

Yep!!! ..And then they moan and complain about not being treated as ''Skilled'' tradesmen!!!
