First of all, physically at the box you have chosen.
Secondly, I guess you are using the SWA? will the steel armour meet the requirements? Or are you TT'ing the distant end?

Presumably because the new section of cable will be inside the house where SWA won't be required (depending on installation method).

Fair enough, but wouldn't you use a cable which allows you to keep the cpc the same size for the whole run?

I'd certainly have a little think about whether it mattered or not. In many cases it won't, provided that the cpc meets the minimum requirements over the whole length of the circuit. If the T&E runs into the board, it'll be obvious that the circuit has more than one cable type. If someone was to insert a piece of T&E into the middle of a run of SWA, I'd be less likely to approve.

why 2 x 6mm SWA? do you mean 2 cables or a 2 core SWA?

what's the earthing system, and are ther extraneous metal parts in the garage?

I mean 2 core SWA.
Earthing system is TN-S
There are no extraneous metal parts in the garage, which is brick built.

Why do you want to extend SWA with T&E?
I was taught that you should always extend a wiring system with either the same type or another type which has equal or better protection.

The SWA goes to the basement inside the house so the 6mm twin and earth will be all be indoors and clipped back to the house consumer unit.
