Consumer Unit change with only 6 fuses

A customer has rang me to go round and price up a new consumer unit, the property is a two bedroom house and he said they currently have an old basic 6way fuse board, only one circuit for all sockets, one for all lights etc.
He had an electrician out who said he wouldnt do it as it wouldnt be safe unless he had a full house rewire? He has no interest in having the house rewired tho just wants the CU replaced.


Is it some reason why he would be told this or is the electrician just trying to make the most of an old chap?

The cu needs moved 2 m to outside wall

If I crimp cables will they be ok on duct to new position. Any advice welcome as never has to do this bedore

I would crimp and double heat shrink.

If possible and accessible, why not a fixed, plastic adaptable box with din rail and connectors.

Or DIN rail connectors in a suitable enclosure, without looking at the installation it's hard to say.

Or just twist them together with a bit of tape, I find masking tape tears easily.
