Got my first request to install a replacement CU today but there is no company isolator on the tails so what is the correct way of isolating the incoming supply through the tails to the board please?

Thanks

Get the DNO to install an isolator or if you feel brave, pull the main fuse.If the board needs changing and you need to isolate the supply, speak to the supplier and see what they say.

The correct method is you should phone the supplier to get then to remove their fuse, you do the install inspect, test and get them replace there own fuse, could cost you up to ÂŁ80 each time, depending how your supplier are

some break the law and remove the fuse themselves etc and with hand on heart state that it was damaged before they got there;)

I was told by a DNO inspector that you can cut the seal and remove the fuse in an emergency.Board needs changing and it needs isolating.Phone them up when you're finished to come and re-seal as it wasn't sealed in the first place;)

You should be very careful when pulling DNO fuses, especially the older ones, as some can disintegrate in your hands as you pull them out.

However this very rarely happens, but great care should still be taken.

this came up recently in discussion also. Advice was to switch of DB at Main Switch and then unscrew and remove the meter tails one by one on the connection. Then call and advise the Supplier that you had to cut seal off to change DB. they usually dont have an issue.

ive been cutting them for years, never had one problem!! i got told by someone from edf that its not a problem to take the main fuse out as its more of an incovenience to them to come and do it, and that it will always be totaley overlooked!! plus the only people that ever come in to the property are the meter readers, and they never work for the company that own the main fuse, so they wont give a monkeys!!
