Hi
Still in 3rd year of college and have a question

Most older type fuse boards BS3036 I come accross seem to be mounted to a peice of wood then mounted to the wall.

When upgrading to the 17th edition boards is it best to remove the wooden panel and mount the board direct to the wall or mount onto the existing wood/replace wood for new wood?

I couldnt see anything in any of my books regarding the mounting of C/U's apart from being accessable

constructive comments welcome

Thanks
Matt

Am I right in saying that the confusion about mounting CUs on a wooden board relates to the old wylex type board that had no back on them because as far as I can remember you always fitted a plywood board to allow for other equipment like bell transformers

My normal method of mounting a cu is on 2 battens i then route the cables down from the first floor between these battens and cover with a ply. I then attache an A4 clear pocket for the test sheets to go in. I also put a notice on not to screew into the board just in case the numpty don't realise there are cable behind it.

Totally I always mount on baton, use the cutouts in the back of the CU and then box in all the cable with plasterboard to finish, no cable visible, no holes in CU for fingers etc to go in.......Looks the dogs, and alot easier to fit and terminate.
