Afternoon all,

Early in the new year, I have the need to leave the comfort of the industrial world and take on a rare domestic job (rewire of my brothers new house)

Its a 4 bed house and to get it how he eventually wants it, a CU with plenty of room for expansion is a must. As usual though, budget is tight so I am trying to source a CU at a reasonable price. Work wise for 3 phase, we use either Hager or Schneider acti9 but the domestic versions of these will prove a bridge too far as will going all rcbo.

I have so far found a British General 22 module high integity unit and a Wylex 21 module high integrity unit, both of which will fit the bill future proofing wise but and there is always a but, are either of these any good and if you had to choose between them, which way would you swing?

Thanks in advance for any opinions/advice.

I have fitte a lot of BG and they are easily as good if not better than MK, contactum or wylex. I have had no component failures with them unlike the other 3. You pays the money . . . .

Morning all,

Bit of a non update really, still waiting for WPD to come and take a look. Broken down vans and storm Elanor put pay to the planned visits this week.

Back to the CU query, just been in the the wholesalers we use at work and asked about their domestic boards. They use Niglon, have done for 2 years now and reckon they have had no comebacks of any sort. Anyone had any experience with Niglon boards? We use their SWA glands and had a few sockets etc for our office block but never used their boards. With my works discount, an all rcbo board is coming in at a very good price.

I haven't had chance to pull the fuse yet to find out, sale hasn't completed yet so i cannot touch it and there is no labellng on the fuse carrier.

If it's a 60A supply then I am more than happy to leave the tails in place. Will probably run them to an isolator and take 25mm from there. Feel it's worth changing to 25mm while the rest of the work is being done, future proofing in case the supply ever needs upgrading.
