Consumer units

Keep getting asked by friends to change their domestic consumer units. Can anyone inform me of the proper procedures to follow? There could be a few to do but am not sure if I need to supply paper work etc.

When you say proper procedures to follow? Are you looking for a step by step process into how to change them ?

Yes you will need to supply paperwork such as Electrical Installation Certificate, Schedule of Inspection and Results.

I assume your not a member of a self certification scheme so you will need also register this with the Local building control if in England and Wales before you start the work

By the sound of your question, are you sure you are competent to do CU changes?

Thanks oxocube that's just what I was after. The procedure I was looking for was only for certificates etc.

and don't forget to do IR tests and cherchez la "borrowed neutral" before you start. saves a lot of grief when your nice new shiny RCDs trip out.

The fact that your taking on consumer unit upgrades and haven't a clue about the certifying procedure is a farce! Are you an electrician!?!?! What the hell is going on within this trade?
