cooker and hob

hello all,
this is my very first post so please go softly with me. i have only just started as a domestic sparky and have a question so any help would be great.
i have a client who wants a cooker and a center hob wired separately but both connected to the same 40a mcb. can i do this or is it not the done thing?

Depending on the load but shouldn't be a problem

you can as long as you use correct size cable usually 6mm but why do customer want 2 lengths of 6mm back too cu? why not just loop together you can use a 60amp jb as long as its accesible maybe behind plinth in kitchen units

your customer hasn't been buying a B&Q kitchen have they?
This sounds like one of thier silly requests.

thanks for the quick replies , started off as one circuit then customers wife decide to go ultra trendy and demanded a center island hob. JB not possible but thanks for confirming both connections in the the MCB

what are the values for the cooker and the hob.

is the hob a gas hob with an 'ignitor' power requirement, or a 7 kW induction hob.

Same for the cooker, is it one of the type supplied with a plug or a huge great range cooker.

Depending on these things, and how far the CU is from their siting, and what reference method you will be using for the cable run, etc.

These things will allow you to decide what cable is appropriate.

I can't think why it's a bad idea running two separate runs (except wasteful). again if the hob just needs an ignitor I'd just spur off the cooker supply?

Depends on the values. Why can't he have two MCB's, they're only thruppence hapeney, one marked "cooker" one "hob"!!

hi, its an induction hob. the client is upgrading the kitchen , however i am glad to say not B&Q though. i agree MCB are as cheap as chips but the 10way box wont accommodate anymore breakers and to say he is watching every penny is an understatement. he doesn't want a new consumer unit.
