cooker extractor hood

can i wire a cooker extractor hood to the lighting circuit? i've read the manual looking for specs but can't find any! is it ok to connect it to the lighting circuit?

Had one recently that the manufacturers engineer would not do an onsite warranty repair because he could not unplug the cooker hood to isolate it from the supply because it was connected to an FCU. Just something to bear in mind

I tend to use round pin sockets with fused plugs or the MK "T earth pin" sockets to provide a non standard connection point

the round pin socket is the 5amp socket ive been reffering too.

wouldn't that socket be inside the hood... If the hood removed at a later date what stopping the whoever change it to a standard one anyway??

a round pin plug and socket are designed to be used on lighting circuits
it makes it a designated socket for the said appliance

Who makes a 5 amp plug top with a fuse in it? Would be handy to keep it fused as per install instructions.

blimey, it'll be fine connected to the lighting circuit via a fcu or a 6A plug/socket.

why would you want to make your customer take the hood off the wall to change a fuse??

Why not just use a FCU with a socket inside the hood if externally vented.

Who mentioned putting the socket inside the cooker hood

If the hood was removed yes there is nothing to stop somebody changing the round pin socket as with all electrics qualified or not

Where els you going to put it as the cable is usually not very long from the extractor and there seems to be concerns with warranty when removing factory fitted plugtops because of the type of connections used???

Well if you put a 3A fuse inside a plug top inside a cooker hood and it blows, guess what, the client has to take the hood off or get someone to do it for them. Can you not see that???

Maybe the manufacturer put the 13A fuse in the pugtop for a reason and thus if left in place whats wrong with using an FCU with the required fuse so the user can change easily and accessibly plus if isolation is needed it can simply be unplugged for servicing etc.

I thought the whole point of a forum is to debate the issues in question to get the best conclsion.. no need to get bloody minded, bad teachers shout at those they see below themselves and that makes bad pupils. so if your experienced enough to teach respect for that and do a good job. It will be appreciated, evidently, even if you dont appreciate.

If your so clever tell us what is the correct distance from a joist to vent out??
or how close the hole can be to the ceiling considering the integrity of the building structure??

Good point by the way Don't most instructions state double pole switch?
