Correct termination of SWA cable

Having been reading a thread recently about private lamp post installations, I've been look at my place of work's lamp posts.

We are considering making some alterations to the existing installation, so I went looking for some manufacturers product details. I took off a post cover, and discovered the detail plate, but also noted the swa cables in & out, haven't been terminated with the proper swa glands, but jubilee clips, no shrouds either.

Just to make sure it wasn't a one off, I randomly inspected other posts and found the same. The posts cut outs are these.

I'm not sure how you would terminate swa cables into such a cut out, but I don't think a jubilee clip is a British or Harmonised Standard for use with swa cable. I've only just web searched the cut out, and will make contact with the manufacturer, but what do you guys think?

If you think about it, it's no different from the spring coils that you get inside a torpedo

Agree but they CPS that cannot be overtightened, unlike the screw type jubilee clip.

Ive never seen anything other that this type in any lighting column or street furniture. Ive fitted loads of them myself.

I'm waiting for someone to point out that Jubilee clips are actually a specific manufacturer's product, much like Hoover,etc.

Obviously I'm not that pedantic, so it won't be me

The difference, presumably, compared with the torpedo is that they're held in place by spring tension, rather than a screw (or worm drive)

My dog seems to take a keen interest in lamp posts. He hasn't mentioned these type of cut-outs yet as far as I know though.

You specify the gland plate you want with these cutouts when you order, either a brass plate, plate with holes, plate with grommets or one with tubes and worm drive clamps.

My own interest in lampposts has not varied thus far from @DPG dog!......younger studenty days obviously that sort of behaviour is not condoned these days ?

I agree that they don't look pretty but they do work well. In lighting columns the main problem is space, These are compact. Also the base of a column is deemed a secure weather tight compartment.

That is how it is supposed to be installed. Some others come with hole positioned for 20mm banjo for cw swa gland depends on the brand.
