Hi

I am seeking some advise not sure if i you can help or point me in the right direction,

I have had some electrical work done in my council home, the council stated they need an niceic contractor to carry out the works and to provide a electrical installtion cert with part p.

I used someone from mybuilder.com who claims he his niceic reg and has his part p,the work has been completed, he said he will send me the certs through the post but after reading forums etc i getting a bit worried as he was supposed to provide me with these certs there and then, so i getting worried now as 1. is the work safe and 2.i need this certs to provide to the local council to pass the work off, i havent had anything through the post as yet and i have send a message on mybuilder.com, what shall i do is there anyway to check if this person is niceic registered?
Thanks

if they have given NIC numbers they will be 99.9% insured as thats a prerequisite for membership.

ask them for a safety inspection and see if they would be happy making good the mess of the CU and certifying it via building control even if it means redoing it or correcting the builders mistakes

advise them that where the builder extended teh cables from is all your worried about. it may cost you bit for for the through inspection but least you get a good job!

The builder didn't extend the cables he just moved the board from head height to celing height onto a studed wall he made, as the wall the CU was originally on has now been knocked out, i think he only opened the CU to fix it on the studed wall.

I was going to get the electrician to move the CU from celing height to head height as i feel the inspector would have a moan if it was left at celing height, also have them change the current 16th edition board to a 17th, thus correcting any problems the builder made, does this sound ok?

right got you now!!

so really he has not carried out any thing other than MW's

but be on safe side get it lowered so you can use it again with out looking for steps and get a 17th installed to give you more prtection!!

yes sounds good! average price for that job would be 350-400 for box swap and maybe 100ish for extending the cables

Thanks Durhamsparky you have been a massive help i really appreciate you advise and help.

Yes the cables would have to be extended, is it ok to extend the cooker and shower cable?
