Discuss Credit / debit card payments in the Business Related area at ElectriciansForums.net

I looked into it when I went self-employed 4 years ago. I decided it wasnt worth it.
Firstly, you need to open a business account. That'll cost you £15/month. You then get charged each time you pay anything in it.
You need to rent the card handset, again £15ish a month. They then take either a fixed fee, 50p-£1.50, or a percentage of each payment paid by card.
Far too many ongoing costs to make it worthwhile for me.
Alan.

I think it depends exactly what you do; my mate's got one which he reckons is a lifesaver when he's doing domestic - you take the callout charge over the phone before you go out, then if it's just a really simple fault which the customer doesn't want to pay for they can't weasel out of paying.

We used to have a PayPal virtual terminal, but it cost!! Now we have a PayPal facility on the website and we use one of those notebooks and an internet dongle thingy, at the customers site get them to pay that way, only costs the percentage Paypal takes.

Steve.
