Hey midgetman here

Extending twin and earth 2.5mm ring to take in two more sockets. Just looping down to them and then back to the ring.
Using blue and red crimps and some heat shrink. my mate says as they is in enclosed in false ceiling under floor boards this joint even though it is crimped and heat shrunk must be put in a choc box or similar so its in an enclosure. Is he right or is he just having a laugh?

thanks

I'm lucky enough to have a set of AMP crimping tools. Three separate tools: red, blue and black/yellow.

I also have a CTT ratchet crimping tool with a red/blue/yellow combi die set and a 10mmsq die set

They wouldn't let me have the BICC G10TS though lol

Whenever I have to make crimped connections I use decent AMP crimps - I find that most others don't have enough "meat" in the barrel that crimps onto the conductor - usually just the same flimsy tinned copper sheet that the crimp's tongue is stamped out of.
However I have found budget crimps on occasion that do have a strong barrel and perform well.

The AMP tools form the insulation grip differently - a rounded diamond shape - and this makes the crimped connection more tolerant of vibration.

However in my previous job, it was forbidden to use crimps on solid conductors.

Simon.

well tel you should never pull you cable in january , wait till tempertaure is up and then pull, far easier
thru' crimps were originally designed for stranded cable and are generally fine with that. typical case of when we had the best cable going, some pratt decides to convert the industry to solid crap ( i'm referring to T/E as opposed to singles ). if you've ever tried pulling in 2.5mm that's been on the van overnight in january, that's one reason for calling it crap.
