Is it a LEGAL requirement to test an installtion and provide certificates after a c.u change. Would you change a c.u and not provide test certificates been asked to do a job without a tester a homer for a friend prob been asked many a time sorry if it has and will get slated for this i think. Should i walk.

Probably sensible to test the instal before a cu change and cover any defects in the price for the job. Bonding, neutral faults etc.
Not a lot of point asking about legality if you are doing a homer ( foreigner to our friends in the south) without public liability insurance cover anyway.

It's gonna be your call mate. If you change it and don't carry out any tests, before and after remember, then it's open for some serious scrutiny. Most notably by building control who may ask for certificates. Also can you fully guarantee that all is ok with the whole install without tests?

Yeah thats true will see if i can borrow tester from work and do as you say as have done board changes in the past where i have just ripped out the old board and put in new one then test only to discover lots of hidden faults!

I'm not sure if it is a legal requirement but under eawa there is a duty to make sure an installation is safe and free from danger. The only way to prove so is by testing and recording results on a cert.
I'm not quite sure why this has been asked?

As i was considering doing it for a friend and i am of the belief that i am making the installation safer than previously by changing c.u. What about the days before testing was their alot more electrical fires?

Mate, fair enough you're right. At one time there wasn't the extent of testing that we do now but answer me this.
If you change the CU and don't test it-
A Are you going to be comfortable
B If something goes wrong is your mate going to stand up in court and say that he told you not to bother testing it.
C Do you think that would be a reasonable defence

I agree with you trev. I dont have test gear the comapany i work for do and may let me borrow i will ask if not.I will tell my mate i wont do it unless he pays for a tester to be rented or i get one. I do know how to test and interpret the values.

Whereabouts are you? Tell your gaffer it's for a job you're doing at your place, I'm sure he'll let you borrow one.

Scotland think he will if say it is for my own place he is fairly reasonable sometimes! ha. Would save me a lot of worry and put my mind at ease obviously the common consensus is dont do a cu change with out testing end of.
