Is it a LEGAL requirement to test an installtion and provide certificates after a c.u change. Would you change a c.u and not provide test certificates been asked to do a job without a tester a homer for a friend prob been asked many a time sorry if it has and will get slated for this i think. Should i walk.

As i was considering doing it for a friend and i am of the belief that i am making the installation safer than previously by changing c.u. What about the days before testing was their alot more electrical fires?
why`s that then?

explain please what your pre-board change findings were...

i`l give you a clue:

I agree with you trev. I dont have test gear the comapany i work for do and may let me borrow i will ask if not.I will tell my mate i wont do it unless he pays for a tester to be rented or i get one. I do know how to test and interpret the values.

Edit: I wasn't wearing my specs

How can you know that you've made the installation safer if you haven't verified that, for example, it remains effectively earthed? You could change the dis board and make the installation less safe also.

I'm stunned at this thread. No genuine electrician would replace a CU without testing, foreigner or not. Neither would a sparky ask about the potential pit-falls. Surely they would know!?

Building Control notification isn't applicable in Scotland
