Thanks Bill, very informative, thats exactly how i feel but trying to get him to understand is the hard part, i have explained to him originally what you have stated in your post, but his answer always has been that the wiring for the heating is electric so is covered by the cert, even though i have told him that my remit finishes at the fcu at the boiler. I think i will have to see where it goes and do all the above, once again many thanks to everyone and all your comments. Could anyone point me in the right direction for more up to date T&C's.

He's wrong, plain and simple, whatever he chooses to claim.

The term "fixed" wiring should give the clue, and putting it in writing always conveys your willingness to stand by what you say. It carries a weight that no amount of shouting will.

It's a fairly safe bet he'll fade away once he's read your comment in writing.

- Noted your other reply too mate- PM me an email address, I'll fire them over.

Alright pal, I'm sorry I havn't got time to read the whole thread, but, When ever I'v had difficult people to deal with, my advice is as soon as it starts getting nasty, make sure everything said is by letter, and sent recorded delivery. With a 'paper trail' you avoid people trying to bend the truth should it make it as far a court. Also if people think their that all steps can be traced, they might well back down.

All the best

I think i will have to see where it goes

The complainant needs to put it into writing to you what the problem is and what they want you to do to put right. This is when you reply, and explain your side of the story.

Courts don't just accept a case because someone says so, normally they like to see an effort from both sides to resolve things first.

Just keep a record of the events and wait for the complaint in writing from the complainant. Until then, how are you meant to know there's a problem.

I need some help with a very problem customer, I have carried out a c/u change and issued a EIC, then 2 weeks later I get a phone call blaming me for the boiler not working,

So his boiler wasn’t working for the two weeks since you left site?

Got another call (4 months later) to say that ever since I fitted the controls the heating system doesn’t work and their plumber has said that the controls were the problem,

So he had no central heating for the 4 months since the previous site visit?

So obvious he’s trying it on!

obvious attempt at blagging. like having your car seviced then complaining when you get a puncture. " never been right since you were here" is another one., call his bluff.

Yeah I think you are all right, The boiler was working when i left the first time, when i replaced the boiler controls (heating and hot water), been ok for 4 months then the fault with the central heating, their plumber has said that it was because i changed the controls and couldn't be anything else. When I was called back to the house i traced all the wiring and found the tank stat wasn't working properly (when the hot water was up to temp, I turned the stat all the way off, then after a couple of seconds the sat would send a call for heat to the boiler). Even my plumber friend i spoke to said its nothing i have done and this is a mechanical failure. The way i see it the tank stat is faulty and this is what has caused all the problems, (but the customer keeps saying that this is electric and I should have checked it when I did EIC!!!!!

go to your nearest oxfam shop and get him a greatcoat, preferably one teeming with lice

Years ago someone I knew moved a couple of rads, he then got a phone call a couple of weeks later saying that another rad had stopped working since. When the guy went round and lifted a board the non working rad had never been connected up to the central heating system in the first instance.
