Cutting compound substitute

I need to put a thread on a single piece of conduit, but i dont want to buy a whole tub of cutting compound and I dont want to go in dry (oo-er). Is there any half decent substitute like baby oil or something?

We use paraffin and light oil mix but as stated you can use anything you can lay your hands on if you go slow and just for a single thread.

Some great suggestions here gents. I've got a bar of soap lying around the house which I never use (i'm from Gloucester) so I think I'll go with that.
