Cutting compound substitute

I need to put a thread on a single piece of conduit, but i dont want to buy a whole tub of cutting compound and I dont want to go in dry (oo-er). Is there any half decent substitute like baby oil or something?

Matter of fact....the comma tub i bought to fix the car cv joints with came in a tub and with an internal lid with a fingersized hole in it.....
