Dado Trunking

I have a job coming up installing 3 compartment Dado trunking. Is there a standard or spec for which cables go in which compartment. I would assume that power goes in the centre compartment and data etc in the outer compartments?

Usually LV in middle and ELV in top and bottom, e.g. data and phone or whatever you're using it for.

Yep as above power in the middle data in top and bottom, the boxes take up most the space in the middle compartment , use tie rap bases in the bottom compartment so you can secure the cables with tie raps so you can fit the bottom lid easier, just make sure if there is a spec you follow that

I've never even considered that method. I find just using the correct depth trunking and boxes does the trick.

I just found it an easy way to fit the bottom lid with out trapping the cables , yes the boxes hold the cable in the middle and the top no problem because it just sits on the shelf.

My solution comes in liquid form with Rioja written on it. That should clear things up for me.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the replies, I thought that was how it was supposed to be. The reason I asked is that there is some trunking already in the office with the power in the top and data through the middle. Guess the data/IT guys got in first and took the easy option!

Depends what there is I suppose, just done an open plan office before xmas with 4 lots of 1x 4mm ring and 30 cat5 so used centre for data and bottom for power.

That makes sense - use the biggest compartment for the greater number of cables - if you've got one ring covering a run of dado the maximum you'll have is 6 singles for the power, but a cat5 for each data socket (2 for each double). Ideally you'd minimise the number of data cables by running them in the basket above the ceiling and dropping down close to the socket, and it's probably best to keep data cables out of the way of power and not having them run directly behind sockets, but in the real world compromises have to be made.
