Ok all, can anyone help me give an approximate date for the CU below? Its in a flat built in 1963 so I'm having a stab in the dark for late 1980's

Thanks

Yes its the original 1960,s board Wylex have been making them since the 1950,s but it would have been colour coded 3036 fuses as pop up Mcbs did not come till later on, good board lasts forever but very small earth terminals, shame they don't make them now

I wonder how many of these are still in service ?

There must be literally millions still left in service out there in the domestic and small commercial sectors!! Those old Wylex CU's revolutionised the typical existing fuse boards they replaced. They were the first completely adaptable fuse board (in that each fuse way could be any rating between 5A and 30A) that had an incorporated main isolation switch.

Only the adoption of requirements for RCD protection really polished these old CU's off. Well that and the max value of 60A on the main switches....

Called out to a fault in a house yesterday, exactly the same board but with 3036's.

Hence, the fuse cover was still intact and in decent condition

One of the earlier ones with the finger screw fuse cover fixing and 2BA main cover fixings. The later had slotted screws with tiny heads/slots. See them regularly used for landlords supplies in flats, still with the 3036's.
The slots are usually cream crackered making the fuse cover awkward to remove.
