Daughter wants to play minecraft over net

My lad plays Minecraft on the Xbox. So while playing Minecraft, for his friends to play on his world he just need to invite then to a 'Xbox Party' and there should be an option to invite them to the game.
Not really great for PC but if you have an Xbox (I'm presuming there is something similar for PS4) then this may be an option.

I love playing Minecraft and I'm 52. As @littlespark said above "Much like real life lego" Also like making automated farms.

I think cross platform play may only be possible with the latest bedrock version pretty sure our wiiU one can only pair with other wiiUs

Cross platforming is increasingly common the latest version of Minecraft can.

When I looked at this about a year ago, so my son and I could play together (Me on PC and him on the Xbox) it wanted me to have the Windows version of Minecraft on the PC and not the Java version.

Java and Bedrock were incompatible and I think they still are. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I've found a free virtual LAN program named Himachi.

Has anyone used it?
Will it work with Minecraft?
Can it leave her laptop, and more importantly, MY laptop (sharing the house wifi) open to security breaches.?
