Had an absolute howler of a day, been beating myself up all night lol! Want to know everyone else gets over a howler of a day? I struggle to get over it. Was working on a job today, foot slipped off the joist in the loft and burst the ceiling below, total accident but just annoyed at myself for being so clumsy

Call in a favour from a tame plasterer and move on. It happens to all of us. (Just the once in 50 years, when I fell foul of a pile of rolled up short lengths of carpet in the loft.)

I’ll put it like this: I had a young trainee girl working with me last year on a project and we had an absolute stinger of a day somewhere European (can’t remember and doesn’t matter..), found her literally reduced to tears which is never a good look. So I look her in the eyes, put on my Dad face and tell her “Don’t bother wasting the emotion, it’s really not worth it. And I’ll tell you why it’s not worth it : because no matter how ***** today was, I can absolutely guarantee you one thing, and that is that there will come another day even worse than this one”. And then we finished the job, drank enough cider to sink a ship and carried on with life.

Not sure about that lesson.
'It's only going to get worse' 😄

It's true, though. And it's not about abandonment to things getting worse, it's about teaching resilience and determination through which we develop experience - if only in how to approach challenges and problems.

And, more importantly, how else do we gain our personal war stories? 😉

Awww don't worry about mate.

I bumped a car the other month did my head right in 🙄😳😜

Did you end up patching it up and stuff and that's what peed you off the most?

There was a joiner on site who patched it but it was more the fact I was just frustrated at my clumsiness. Could have easily been avoided but one a those things that will be a funny story to tell

Problems and setbacks were made for solving and more importantly learning from as that old song says Pick yourself up, Dust yourself off and Start all over again
Just look at it that only thing that was injured was your pride and that can easily be fixed by making good the damage so it looked like it never happened

The worst day I have ever had happened just over 20 years ago we had to get a cable from the roof to the basement computer server room it started as a little leak about 6pm and finished with somewhere between 50,000 - 100,000 litres of water flow down a riser from the second floor to the basement post room in an office block 3 hours later had a rather sleepless night contemplating the meeting with the customer the following morning which went better than expected as it turned out the pipe that failed should have been replaced 2 years earlier by a contractor who had been paid for the work so they took the hit

I drilled through a lead water main in a plastered wall feeding a cold water tank in a hospital in North London 40 years ago.
It was due to me drilling a fixing for my metal clad socket back box, all surface conduit.
Mains pressure you can imagine the amount of water spewing out all through my conduit boxes and sockets lol everywhere. Even the plumber on site was panicking lol

Had one a few years back that the customer caused he saw my SDS drill with a long 8mm masonary bit in it, asked if he could use it to drill a few holes in the joints of the block paved drive to help it drain better after 3 or 4 holes the customer called me outside because the drive was hissing he had drilled through the gas main that was only buried 6 - 8 inches below the surface while he called Cadent I used a masonary screw through the pipe to seal the hole, the guy's that turned up to repair it commented that it was a very novel temporary repair and they were going to take the piece of pipe complete with screw back to the office

Working in a new build after a storm, that had not had windows installed found ground floor about 4-6 inches deep in water.
Another guy on site thought he'd do a good deed and drill through the floor slab to drain the water - Builder/developer went ape as he had also drilled through a DPC membrane!!!
