out of interest what inverters you using

Samil power solar ocean 250, one of them nice and hefty and 1.8 tonnes.

I was advised by power one to use 9 small 20kw inverters on a 250kw install and no DC isolators

Yeah it is always better in my opinion to use smaller inverters but the client wanted one unit for some reason. I can get away with isolator as built in on inverter but I'd rather be able to shut the strings down individually for maintenance and testing

No your correct, it does still apply. Panel rating is lower in this instance
