Hi Guys,

Very new to the forum and industry and still training. I was wandering how you go about disconnecting the tails from the meter to the consumer unit if now cutoff point is supplied by the DNO, I read in the IEE on site guide to have a discussion with the DNO to arrange to have the fuse removed? from the supply. Confident this a stupid and novice question but can someone shed some light on this please, losing sleep over this simple one!! thanks:confused:

In Bristol guys and I believe wales also, it costs £39.99 for western power distribution to fit an isolator on for you. In most cases I have found that the main fuse is something lkie a 60/80a anyway. i have not yet come across a 100a. let me know if you have on older houses.

I have a job now where I advised customer to have this installed as pulling the seals is is a criminal offence. the builder told the custommer I am talking Sh*t and you dont have to call them just pull the fuse out.

lol

IMHO, pull it safely (Invest in gauntlets), do what's necessary, reseal it with a ty-wrap (to stop the customer playing with it) or (and I do not advocate their use), you can even buy the seals and pliers on e-bay! Then inform the supplier that the seal is missing. they are happy to reseal (at their convenience and own good time) letting the supplier know is just a courtesy and as long as there's no butchery toolmarks etc.helps to stop your customer being accused of meter tampering.
