greetings :)

I’m looking at getting an isolator switch put in just before the consumer unit.
DNO has quoted ÂŁ138 incl VAT for the job.
Now, I have lvl 3 domestic electrical installer diploma in the bag, and am not far from going for AM2.
Is there anything I can do on the consumer side to help lower the cost, or am I better off just taking it on the chin?
Apologies if I may appear a bit of a n00b when it comes to this kind of thing ;)
Thanks,
Gary

Nothing you can do. They own the cut out and seals. You would be breaking the supply agreement if you mess with them.
Not to mention putting yourself at risk
Lvl3 or not.
Sorry

Pay the money and let them take the full responsibility and risk.

You dont have to use the dno. There is a company called Haste who will fit one for ÂŁ76+vat.
Western power charge silly money. Usually cheaper to get the dno to pull fuse. You fit the isolator and dno wait. Western power charge ÂŁ75 inc vat to pull fuse and wait an hour.
For sake of 15 quid difference i would let haste fit it aswell.

If it's any use to you, I rung my supplier (eon) last month and asked about it. The lady on the phone "had to ask". Surprisingly she called me back an hour later to tell me they supply and fit isolators for free! Sure enough a man turned up later in the week and fitted a 100a Proteus DP isolator for me. Couldn't complain at that! (Isolator fitted after their meter).

Yep,Eon did one for me,at a property i have. I took an isolator with me,on the chance the meter swap lad would do it,and he said he had one with him,and it was free:)

It was an exceedingly rare time,a DNO made me feel grateful... it was a strange feeling ;)
