Do I need a new Consumer Unit?

Hi,

I'm playing with the idea depending on cost, of adding an small ensuite using a saniflo pump. I have linked a picture below of my consumer unit. Does my unit have RCD protection? Would I need a new consumer unit/RCD protection or would a spur off the ring, fcu etc etc be fine? don't want to start getting quote and messing people about if its going to be costly.

Thanks

What you have there is a 100mA front end RCD. Which indicates that you have a TT installation.
If your ensuite contains either a bath or a shower, there is a requirement to protect any circuits of that room with 30mA RCD protection.
If however it will just be a toilet, then depending on type of cable or the method of installation of the cables you may well not require 30mA RCD protection.

If RCD protection is required to circuits in the ensuite this could be achieved without a CU change..which would be less costly.
However the safety of the installation could be enhanced with a properly thought out CU change, and the risk of losing all power removed if the one RCD you have at present trips......worth considering.
