Hi,

I am a little confused and hoping for some help.

I am a qualified JIB gold card spark and work with a friend (also qualified spark) as sole traders, we have subcontracted to company's for the last say 5 years doing commercial electrical and fire alarm installations.

Now we are looking at maybe registering with stroma so that we can do domestic works and notify etc but I have potentially been offered some contracts for a local company that want to sub out there electrical works to us (commercial).

Now do we need to be a member of NICEIC or stroma etc to sign off or can we just test and issue an EIC from a book or template of our own?

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

you do not need to be a member of any of the scams for commercial and industrial work. however, some, such as councils and some insurers insist on it. check with your main contractor as to what is required (if anything) for the subbing work you will be doing

Ok will check with then now, it's a local alarm company that want to push there electrical work to us. Hopefully be a nice supply of work

Tel beat me too it, More and more companies are asking for it and some insist on it, it may not be right but it's the way it is going. and also rightly or wrongly most will ask for Niceic, most large companies have never heard of the other schemes. I have one customer that as sites accross the uk and they insist on it. And if i told you how much they spent with me last year it's clear to see why It would be suicide for me not to have Approved status.

Yeah I'm worried that this maybe the case and that they will be for me to be NICEIC for the status. We shall see. Thank you
