UK Do I need to change to an 18th edition board when rewiring a house?

Hi

We are having a complete rewire of our house and also new wiring to the two-story extension that is being built.
The Sparky has said we need to change our board to a metal cased 18th edition board. Our board is only 7 years old and has plenty of headroom for adding more devices. See attached picture.

Any advice appreciated as this is a cost that we could do with saving.

Not read the thread but if I was doing a full rewire, all accessories and switch gear would be replaced aswell. Also its BG.

Nobody is disputing that. But the OP's question is not should he, it's does he have to in order to be compliant.

Imo if it's been certificated as a rewire, and will be registered with labc as such, I think it should be done

Ok, is replacing just the cable and sockets classed as 'a new circuit' so building control has to be notified or it it an 'alteration to an existing circuit' ?
