Hi,

I've put in a switched fused spur to supply some computer/networking kit in a metal rack (rack is earth bonded to the spur).

I was going to just screw the face plate straight in to some inclosed MDF boxing which contains Cat6/Satellite cables.

Is there any reason this needs to be but in a back box? If I'm honest this may be a pain to retro fit now. If there is a problem could I use a load of PVC tape to 'contain' the terminals on the spur?

Do yourself a favour and ask the mods to remove this thread. You WILL get a lot of stick for this.
Assuming this isn't a wind up then yes, you should use a back box. Forget the tape. Daz

but is the rack extraneous. doubtful. here a picture tells a thousand words.

I seriously in shock... don't you require basic electrical skills/knowledge to do stage lighting or are you just a plug and play technician (Title exceeds ability).

So the Data guy comes along to access his cables due to a fault and gets killed because its a pain to fit the correct box...

Screening
Containment / segregation
Access for other trades (safety)

These grids can be used in certain set-ups but deffo not your situe.

Sorry for been so blunt but if your undertaking electrical work then you should have a grasp of the basics and asking is insulation tape would suffice is gobsmacking!

You didn't just disregard one regulation asking this question but several.. hence the onslaught.. we often get accused of bullying tactics but sometimes its more than justified to show the OP that he's well out of his depth even when its a simple job.

TBH, after that incident yesterday with the MCB testing thread I'm thinking this is just pure trolling.

I'm installing smart modules in my light switches which means I need to replace the existing 25mm back boxes with 47mm ones. Downstairs all walls...
