Do you have to do the AM2 to be qualified?

Hi there I've been told by someone who passed his level 3 2330 that you don't need to do an AM2 to be qualified, its not necessary, however I've heard different from other people. Can anyone put me straight?

Depends on the angle we're looking at it from.

JIB stipulate that you need 2330, NVQ 3 & to have passed the AM2 to be classified as an electrician. Non-JIB companies can (not saying they do) call someone with 2330 an electrician, or somebody who has done a 5/10/however many day course. Personally (although biased), I think you can call somebody with 2330 alone an electrician. There are a lot of people without NVQ 3 who have more practical experience, knowledge & skill than some of those with it.

You dont need AM2 to be approved electrician with JIB aslong as you covered every area in your NVQ 3 and its all been signed off.

The AM2 Is if your an apprentice only, it is part of the apprenticeship framework.
If your not an apprentice (like myself) but pass your 2330 + NVQ 3 you can then apply for a JIB Card.

Well time has passed and they didn't stop providing it they rewrote it. However, although it was not a required element in 2330, it is for level 3 2357,and level 3 2365

Think it used to depend on angle of perspective and companies.

I did not need to do it for my apprenticeship but I am not domestic or JIB registered.

I did however have to do a ONC and NVQ 3 so I think it depends on your training provider.

Crap! It depends on which apprenticeship framework you are on, who the awarding body is, which pathway you are on. There is more than one Electrical Apprenticeship, and not all of them require the AM2, in fact there are more that don't than do!

Well I believe there is 4 boxes to tick to gain your nvq and completing am2 is one of those ticks.. But doesn't mean you can't get Ecs card other ways ..,

I cant disagree mate, i have no experience of the requirements in NI, just England and Wales.

I done full course and he sent me back folder to add 12 method statements , and since then I've moved to Scotland...

What ecs card would they offer me with

2377 ??? The quy wants me to pay to submit my folder again.. But is the biggest load of marbles , tho produces nvq 3...

Hi all,
I have 2330 Level 2 and 3 and 17th edition but I don't want to do nvq3 as I've done 2 years as a mate and spark. I want to skip nvq3 and do the am2 instead as I feel I've had enough experience to only do the am2.

is that possible? And what jib grading can I achieve?
