Never seen swa made off and earthed like this before. What are your thoughts? I am thinking poor workmanship and not following manufacturers instructions.
Agreed. Seen it, hate it. Usually fix it with an earthing nut.

Under certain fault conditions, the current flowing through those few strands of steel could be sufficient to heat them to a dangerous level. Not acceptable.
As it happens, I was removing it anyway and replacing with bigger cable that is correctly glanded and bonded

thy followed MI with the Titanic.

when navigating waters with possible large icebergs, send a lad up to watch for ice in the crows nest, be sure not to equip him with binoculars but carry on at full speed anyway.

there are at times better ways of doing it than the manufacturers recommendations!!

No prizes for guessing the issue here. 🙈

Yes, your right, The henly blocks are upside down. WHY WOULD SOMEONE DO THAT!!!
at least whoever put the ct clamp on recognised what the true purpose of the cable was whilst ignoring the tape.

brown to the right
blue to the left
and anything else in the middle.

it was a rime that someone taught my wife many many years ago to help her wire a plug.
she uses it to tease me anytime I am reading instructions or wondering how to wire something up.

The last time she used it was when i was wiring a panel for a small automatic machine, the wire count was over 1000 with 300 or so going off to external switches, actuators, buttons etc.
there I am tracing 30 core cables to label them and put them in the right place and she came to "help" with her advice, good job she is my wife coz the apprentice would have had a much worse response!!
