Hi, can someone help me please. I have always wired boilers with heat resisting flex (mostly non butyl but heat resistant to 90degree). Recently I wired a boiler and the electrician who was only supposed to put a fused spur instead of my temporary plug and socket decided to rip out my heat resitant cable (five core), replace it with some grey multistranded flex with 7 cores. In the process he messed up controls so my customer is left with a system thats not working. I asked him about the cable and he insists that the cable does not need to be heat resistant other than all cables generally. Now I've been taught differently and am unable to find the particular words in the legislation. Is there anyone knowledgeable enough to enlighten me please I can put this to bed or throw the appropriate book.

I've never heard of a reg that says it should be heat resistant cable and I've never used heat resistant cable for boilers, however maybe someone else have more information, shame he messed the controls up though.

Yes I am. Its what I have been taught as part of controls whilst working at British Gas. I am not a newby, but have a reasonable 23 years experience.

Well... if the boiler was VERY close to the immersion heater, maybe.

Are you a heating/plumber engineer?

Domestic boilers don't normally need heat resistant cables. But read the manufacturers instructions to get a definitive answer.

Some boilers are supplied with a flex installed for the supply, this is rarely heat resistant.

I am Part P registerd and electrically trained also.

Didn't you know Murdoch, every trade in the building game these day's are electricians, under this ''limited scope'' crap of the scheme providers... Another money making enterprise for the providers, to the overall detriment of the electrical industry...

Me thinks someone doesn't like competition.

The Elephant and the Caterpillar both chew on vegetation, unfortunately that is where any comparison ends

I don't intend to chew on anymore than I can eat. There seems to be alot of ego in this forum. I only wish to carry on doing what I have done for the past 20 years in peace. Sadly the introduction of Part P will do the same for electrics as ACOP/ACS/ Gas Safe has done for my part the industry. Lets be sure it will not improve standards but do the reverse. And it will put those out of business who care about doing the right thing.
