Hi,

We are having an extension built and noticed the electrician has laid ordinary wiring that will be cemented over. I have attached some photos and was wondering if it conforms to building regs?

not 100% sure but i don't think it should be cemented over, due to the cable capacity as it will get very hot and wont be able to carry as much current. Worth checking though as i wouldn't swear upon it.

totally unacceptable. IMHO, that cable should be enclosed in conduit. why on earth has he run it there anyway? pants.

Internal electrical (or plumbing services) should never be placed ''under'' the slab!! The electrical conduit raceways should be laid on top of the slab in what is known as the screed. The weight of the slab will eventually damage these PVC sheathed cables beyond repair and with no way to replace/rewire them!! Tell your electrician to remove them NOW, ...and when replacing them you want installed in continuous PVC conduit point to point!!!

Its quite amusing that he has put the cable in oval conduit where they will be plastered but thought nothing about the cables in the floor!

is this a genuine client post, or a Electrical Trainee asking if he's done it right?
