O

Octopus

Ok, this may sound a silly (or just plain daft) question but I have a new customer who wants to have a socket in a flower bed - not on a spike or pole but actually in the garden.

I've drawn a blank looking but is there something out there?

ta!

the lewden ones are what councils and public buildings use for outside discreet sockets and flood lighting REMEMBER and fit the cover probably get a couple of spares as they DONOT like getting water in nice frazzel when they do

Another idea: A bit '1 time' so make sure you've wired it right and prepared to have testing limitations, but you could always make your own rock covering just by taking a cheapo IP socket with a lid, then covering the whole lot in fibreglass. With some artistic modelling and a bit of paint it would be 100% watertight and blend exactly with the surroundings.

Mogga that is a top shout. Nice one

But a potentially dammed expensive option!! Depends on how many Lewden plug-tops you need, at 30 quid a plug top!! lol!! Amazingly the plug-top is only 4 quid cheaper than the socket itself...

These units have been around since my training days, and in different guises too, even a slightly larger 3 phase unit.... More of an industrial looking set-up, which of course is where they originated and were mostly used in those days.

If someones asking for a socket in a flower bed then they WILL have more money than sense.

I just think if your going to position a socket outlet in a flower bed and only want a single outlet that these Lewden units are, then go for a unit that doesn't need special plug tops.

There are plenty of IP 66/67 socket outlets out there, that maintains that level of protection whether a normal/ordinary plug top is inserted or not. The Lewden unit drops from IP66 to IP56 with the special plug inserted for use, and IP 00 when a normal plug top is used....
