just want to know if what i have read is true. i.e. that if the lines don't have a cross bar at the end, and there's no signage, tghen i have read that they're not legally enforceable. any ideas, lads/ladettes?

Not heard anything about this, but don't know if I would like to put it to the test.:34:

those pavement stripes are for no loading. and i was on the lines as working in a jewellers shop. how the F are you supposed to do a call-out if the van's half a mile from site?

I've tried appealing a parking ticket on that basis before - the council said something along the lines of 'even though they didn't have a bar across the end their purpose was clear' and disallowed my appeal.
You could maybe take it to NPAS who might agree with you, but the stakes are raised to over £100.

If the yellow line at 90degrees to the double yellows isn't present then you might get away with it if you are parked at the end.

If you park in the middle of a long stretch of double yellows then it doesn't matter what they are like at the end, you know they are double yellows and shouldn't park there so can be done for it regardless.

i'll upload a pic later. i was parked right at the end of the lines, which were only about 20ft long anyway from a 10ft. break.

I'm pretty sure when I tried using that defence I was parked on the end of the lines as well.
That's not to say you can't get off paying - I got a ticket when I had parked on a single yellow line which looked like an attempt had been made to rub it out, and the only sign was around 2 corners. The council were adamant that I had to pay up but I stuck to my guns and took it to NPAS. A couple of days before I had to present my appeal I got a letter saying the council had decided not to contest it.

As I say, it's a bit of a gamble. If you have the money to pay the inflated fine it's worth a shot on principle - I don't think councils should be allowed to get away with charging £30 or so every time someone parks on the end of double yellow lines when they can't even be bothered to paint them on properly, and I also don't like the way they try to bully you into paying by upping the ante.

it's £70, but £35 if paid within 14 days. however, if an appeal is made within the 14 days and that appeal is refused, then the option to pay the £35 within 14 days from the date of refusal is there. so, nothing to lose by appealing.

What some councils do is to allow a second appeal after they've sent a 'notice to owner' when the fine will have gone up to £70. By the time you get the chance to appeal to NPAS it'll be around £120 if you lose.
