Drummond Test Lamp

A daft question you may say, but, I was out last night with some Electrician friends for a few beers and a curry, the subject we were discussing was the safe isolation procedure.

An argument ensued about proving units and their operation, now my first test lamp was the Drummond, this was about 1973, I have had many different types over the years, but always thought the Drummond was the best by far. One of the lads said his Drummond had a self test facility, I couldn't quite believe that, but did argue to to forcibly as he is a good mate and he was adamant that he was correct, so we got back the serious question of whose round it was.

I guess my question is, and I'm quite sure I'm right they do not have a self test facility, has anyone any thoughts ?:hammer:

Glenn’s OK, playing merry hell because he’s blown yet another van engine.

Funny how everyone clears off once you start unpacking that stuff.

I don’t like the curved probes, I’d rather use straight even if it does mean crawling in the cubical.

Does he wear divers boots??

Some of our OCB housings are just too low to get straight in to the spouts so we have to used the angled probes. One man on each probe and move in turn when phasing out.
As mentioned the hiss is a little unnerving at first just the same when racking the CB in and out.

All our 11KV switches were vertical isolation so not too bad for access. I actually found the angled probes harder to use, I suppose it’s what you get used to.

somebody needs to explain to him the difference between his boxer and a boxter. coz' he drives the former as if it were the latter.

The Drummond Test Lamp will probably still be around 20 - 30 years from now, I wonder how many of the other current voltage testers will be able the say the same?? lol!! I still have mine, that is now over 30+ years old.

The only other voltage tester that has had a life nearing the drummond test lamps that i can think of, is the black Dolmam Smith Solenoid AC/DC voltage tester but i think it goes under a different name now... Got one of those too!! lol!!
