Good Afternoon guy's
Hope you are all well
I need some advice, before I fit a new Consumer box do I need to notify Building Control. The reason why I ask this question is I have booked for an assessor to come out after I have fitted a new Consumer unit as well as carried out the usual tests to come and assess me so I can be listed on as Full Scope to self-certify myself.
Your advice would be most appreciated.
Thank you in advance

Agree with above ... if the assessor is happy with your work and you then enter into the scheme you can legitimately notify through your scheme and save a good few quid.

Thanks Guys
Just got a bit confused when I came across the regulation stating that you have 3 choices:
1 To Notify BC
2 There's no need if you are on a scheme
3 3rd party testing

hi what type of question does the assessor ask and what does he look for and do you need to show him or her all the tests required for a consumer change. I want this so much!!!

You can get this info from the website of whatever scheme you've arranged an assessment with.
They tend to put a 'bit of a gloss' on things for business reasons.

It Would be good to hear real life examples of questions, I hope you get replies.
Changing a CU leaves you open to quite a scope of questions.
Someone told me if you don't know the answer to a question, don't BS, just say you'll check the regs before answering.
Not sure if that's true, good luck

Thanks for the reply don't know why the subject strayed away. i'm sure everyone was in the same boat as i'm in right now they too were searching for advise and answers

too many on this site get too big for their boots just because they are answering a question

@Derbylad - Comments like this are also a problem, can you refrain from making similar in future thankyou.

@Rudeboy500 Threads like conversations can stray a little from time to time and can be for a few reasons, we do keep a watch and it was only for a few posts.

Can we bring the thread back on topic please ... lets remember this is a big day for Rudeboy500 and I'm sure you may recall been in a similar situe', I can only think the nerves will be high for him so helpful posts please.

So carrying on can anyone give examples of questions or what the Assessor maybe looking for when he visits ..Thankyou.

You will be asked questions pertaining to the wiring regs and building regs with the empahasis on domestic dwellings. Exactly what the questions will be no-one can really say as each assessor and assessment will be different. They each have their own pet questions and some issues become "flavour of the month" with some schemes.
You will probably get asked to perform a test or two and maybe dismantle some of your work for inspection.

On the whole it won't be anything you can't handle and you will leave the experience with a "Oh, was that it ?" sort of feeling. A mixture of relief that it's done with, and wondering if that really did demonstrate competence because you had so much more to offer.
